What's Happening In & Around Our Diocese & Mt. Hope Community
Ash Wednesday: While Ash Wednesday is the start of our Lenten Season, it is not a day of obligation. Nonetheless, people have traditionally come to Mass on that day to have blessed ashes imposed on their foreheads. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Holy See has revised the rite of imposing ashes for this year. Rather than having ashes on the forehead, ASHES WILL BE SPRINKLED ON THE TOP OF THE HEAD for those who wish to receive them. The revised rite calls for the celebrant to bless that ashes and then to impose them IN SILENCE, without the normal formula.
For this year, ashes will be imposed from 8:30 - 9:30 am only at both St. Dominic AND St. Francis of Assisi. There is no need to make a reservation. Social distancing will still be required. On that day, people should ENTER the FRONT DOOR of the church and DEPART from the SIDE DOOR of the church.
