Grades 1 – 4

Program Description

At the Mt. Hope Catholic Community of St. Dominic and St. Francis, we provide our students with the rich traditions of our Catholic faith.

We understand that faith formation is a life-long experience of living and learning -- it is faith in action.

It encompasses not only what is taught in our programs, but what is shared at home.

For our students in Grades 1-4, we will be using the Benziger, Blest Are We: Faith in Action series. The books have tear out pages, so the children can leave their books in class and take home the

lesson they worked on. This will enable parents to see what their child is learning and how they are progressing.

Classes for students in Grades 1-4 will be held on Sundays at St. Dominic's Church after the 9:30am liturgy (10:30am - 12noon.)

Our Mount Hope Catholic Community is blessed with a dedicated and creative group of teachers. They will be putting together some special activities to accompany the lessons.

Sacramental Preparation

Our Sacramental Program for First Penance and First Communion is a 2-year program which begins in Grade One.

In Grade One, our students will learn about belonging to our Church; God and creation;

Jesus and the Holy Spirit; and our call to be followers of Jesus.

This lays an important  foundation for what the children will learn in Grade 2.

Attendance in Grade One is required in order for a student to enter Grade Two.

Our textbooks for Grade Two First Penance preparation will be... Reconcilliation: Pardon and Peace

and for preparation for First Communion... Eucharist: We Give Thanks and Praise.

Both are from the Benziger Sacramental series.

Family Liturgies

Each month there will be a special Family Liturgy at our 9:30am mass.

Each liturgy will have special theme created by Fr. Tom. We will also add some special children's music as well!

This liturgy counts as class time and students will be asked to sign-in.

At the end of the liturgy, students will be given a special liturgy-themed activity to do at home.

Members of our Youth Council will serve refreshments after each Family Liturgy!

Our students not only learn the basics of their faith but pray, celebrate and serve together.

At the Mt. Hope Catholic Community of St. Dominic and St. Francis parishes, we value the role of parents as the primary teachers of their children.

We will work together with parents, to assure that our students have an enriching faith formation experience.
