Parish Ministries and Organizations

"Christ recognized the gifts of the people around him and in this he inspired and empowered them to be lights for God's Kingdom."

At St. Dominic's are fortunate to have a number of active ministries and organizations. If you are interested in getting more information about any of these ministries or organizations, please contact the parish office at 508-675-7206.

Church Ministries:

Eucharistic Ministers -- This group of commissioned and trained ministers distribute Communion at Mass and brings Communion to the home-bound.

Lectors -- Lectors are parishioners who read the Scriptures, petitions and announcements at Sunday and weekday Masses.

Service Ministries:

The Holy Spirit Society of Swansea -- The purpose of the society is to promote faith in the Holy Spirit by maintaining the Azorean traditions of hosting “Domingas” (7 weeks of praying the rosary for all 7 days of that week) and “Coroacao” (crowning) closing with a banquet on Pentecost Sunday, which is the Sunday of the seventh Dominga.
On Pentecost Sunday we have our yearly fundraiser. All funds are then distributed to local needs.

St. Vincent de Paul Society -- Serves those in need throughout our parish by offering financial assistance, prayer and information about community resources. SVDP volunteers typically take bags of food to those in need. Special food deliveries are made at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas (along with specially wrapped gifts provided by parishioners through our Giving Tree program). Phone requests for help are made to the rectory.  The SVDP members meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

Knights of Columbus Bishop Cassidy Council # 3669 -- This is a fraternal service organization of men, founded under the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. Their programs serve the Church; community; council; family and youth. Each year this Council conducts a Coat Drive for children in need; and raises money each year for persons with intellectual disabilities, scholarships, our parish and much, much more. They offer their assistance and support to other parish organizations. The Knights meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month. The 4th Degree Knights meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month.

Pro-Life Committee -- Members of the Pro-Life Committee promote Jesus Christ’s truth about right to life issues by educating, empowering, and motivating people to stand for life from conception to natural death. They sell roses on Mother’s Day and host a yearly baby shower raising funds to support the Haitian Health Foundation as well as numerous local and national organizations such as: The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Priests for Life; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Community Autism Resources; The Jimmy Fund; Birthright and the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.

The Women's Guild -- This group supports spirituality and friendship for women in the church community. Our Women's Guild hosts activities and events throughout the year that build community among our members.  They support the parish community through sponsoring three dinners a year.  Proceeds from the dinners and raffles are used to support other ministries in the church and local organizations. The Guild has a potluck dinner and Memorial service for past members once a year. In the month of May, they have a special Mass and say the rosary. Following they have a May breakfast. The Women's Guild meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month, September- May.

Our Parish Council -- The prayerful, visioning body of the parish. Members are comprised of representatives of the various organizations and ministries of the parish. They serve as an advisory and consultative body to the pastor regarding the spiritual affairs and strategic planning for the welfare of the parish. Our parish groups work in unity to support our pastor, the other ministries and the parish as a whole.
